Dear friends,
What is the foundation of our church?
Decades before the stones were laid and the bricks stacked for this building, a group of Germans Lutherans took it upon themselves to establish Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession in Fair Haven, Minnesota.
What you see in the picture above is the 3rd article of the constitution that the charter members signed on April 3, 1887. It states that this congregation is Evangelical Lutheran not in name only, but in doctrine and practice, which means that everything they would say and do would be governed by God’s Word for the sake of the Gospel.
It’s an amazing thing to consider the faithfulness of those folks, who had it in mind to build a church. Not in the first place a building, but a congregation of sheep who hear their shepherd’s voice. They were serving not just themselves and their families, but you and me, who still hear the voice of their same shepherd in this place. We are heirs of their faith, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the cornerstone.
Thank God for those folks in your prayers, for we are beneficiaries of that promise delivered at Sinai, that God would show love to thousands of those who love him and keep his commandments. Thank God for his lovingkindness!
God bless and keep you,
Pr. Buchs
