Friends,
I’ve often written to you about the Church Year. It’s a helpful tool for governing our lives according to God’s time. It keeps us focused on his saving work among us. It teaches us to think of our days in view of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, and the gift of his Spirit to the Church.
Last week I showed the kids at Family Night a calendar that shows the cycle of the Church Year. It’s really beautifully done, for one thing. But it’s also great for seeing the big picture.
Here’s what it looks like in an image from the publisher’s web-site:

We’re coming up on the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany, which is about 10 or 11 o’clock on the chart. The number of Sundays in Epiphany depends on the date of Easter. This year we have 4 Sundays in Epiphany before we enter Pre-Lent. Then we begin marking time in respect to Easter. The first Sunday in Pre-Lent is called Septuagesima (Latin for the number 70) because it is 70 days before Easter.
Take a look at the chart and learn to mark your days and weeks and months by the Church Year!
God bless and keep you,
Pr. Buchs
