Lord Jesus, Thou King of Kings and Lord of lords, on this day when my country thrills to the greatness of its past and loyalty and patriotism are aroused, give me also gratitude for the blessings I enjoy here and the readiness to serve my nation well. Teach me anew to treasure that dearly won liberty of conscience and worship which is the corner-stone of our country’s principles. Let me not basely misuse my freedom by neglecting to praise and serve Thee as Thou hast decreed. Help me to view the peace and order maintained by my government as direction from Thee to redeem the time for Thy kingdom. Give me willingness to share in the processes of democratic rule, to respect my country’s laws, to use my rights of vote and choice of my officials, and to work for the preservation of its institutions. Teach me that even as in Thy kingdom, so in my own land freedom means that I must serve. Protect me and my fellow-citizens from all subversive opinions and preserve my government from all danger of becoming the prey of selfish interests. Let my nation learn anew that Thou art ruling the destinies of men and nations, that it owes its life to Thee, and its future rests in Thy counsel. Let my land rejoice in freedom of this present life, but chiefly do I pray Thee, turn the hearts of its people to that freedom from sin and death which Thou alone, my Savior and Redeemer, canst give in Thy truth. In Thy name. Amen.1
God bless and keep you,
