Dear Friends,
Every Sunday, there’s a prayer that I sing during worship just before the congregation sings the Sanctus (“Holy, holy, holy Lord God of Sabaoth. . .”). It’s called the Proper Preface. It’s Proper because it changes depending on the season of the church year – it is proper for that Sunday. And it’s a Preface because it leads us into the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
Here’s the Proper Preface for Holy Week:
“It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who accomplished the salvation of mankind by the tree of the cross that, where death arose, there life also might rise again and that the serpent who overcame by the tree of the garden might likewise by the tree of the cross be overcome. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: Holy, holy, holy Lord. . .“
Let us give thanks to God this Holy Week for the forgiveness, life, and salvation he has worked for us! Come along Thursday and Friday evenings as we prepare to celebrate the Feast of the Resurrection on Sunday morning!
God bless and keep you,
Pr. Buchs
