Dear friends,
Our next Family Night is this Wednesday! We spent the first few Family Nights talking about Baptism, and now we’re making our way on to the Lord’s Supper. It’s encouraging to hear the kids of all ages thinking about what it means that God feeds his people. The Bible Stories to that effect are abundant. Take a minute sometime to think it through: how many Bible Stories can you think of that have to do with food? It’s no wonder then that a meal (the Lord’s Supper) is central to our lives as Christians!
One of the blessings of an emphasis on Catechism at a younger age is that kids are prepared to receive and benefit from the Lord’s Supper at a younger age. It’s the meal that feeds us as Christians, strengthening us in faith and love! Just as Jesus welcomed the children into his open arms, so also he desires to feed them who hunger and thirst for his righteousness!
It may be surprising to see children younger than 14 years old receiving the Lord’s Supper. What a joy, though, to see God’s children living lives of repentance and faith, trusting in God’s promises, and being blessed with all the gifts he gives to his church in Jesus!
I’m going to spend some time in Bible Study this Sunday talking about this and what to expect in the days ahead! If you have any questions, please reach out, and plan to stick around for Bible Study!
God bless and keep you,
Pr. Buchs
